WP 4 STRUCTURING THE FUTURE
Workpackage leader: Partner 3 and 17, France
Partner 3: French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) and
Partner 17: National Research Agency (ANR)
Objectives
- From national programmes to ERA-PG: building a durable translational structure for plant genomics in a mid term and global perspective
- Identifying strengths and weaknesses of the ERA-PG project
- Identifying new potentialities for the European Research Area in Plant Genomics
- identifying areas where it would be desirable that ERA-PG contribute to European and international programmes of crucial importance
Tasks
Development of indicators of the competitiveness of ERA-PG
Plant genomics requires considerable amounts of funding to be effective. This
also means that a periodical survey of financial investments and their scientific
outcome needs to be organised. There are main indicators that may be used to
assess this reality: publications, software, eventually patents, flow of trainees,
the accumulation of genomics resources, financial investments...
Identification of priorities and new opportunities for the European Research
Area in Plant Genomics
Three sub-tasks will focus on: ERA-PG future-Proposal for the future of the
ERA-PG programme, joint actions with European initiatives and platforms, legal
structuring of research results and patents mutualisation
Towards truly integrated ERA-NET programmes in plant genomics to strengthen
the basis of plant genomics
Two integration levels can be regarded as major drivers when looking for strengthening
plant genomics. The analysis of the different options and opportunities outside
and inside the existing ERA-NET Plant Genomics will be the basis for the relevant
actors to decide on their future activities with respect to integrate their
plant genomics activities.
Overcoming the North-South and West-East genomics divide in Europe
It is clear also from this application that the West European countries are
best equipped with respect to plant genomics research programmes and the
facilities and technologies needed. To create opportunities for plant genomics
research in South and East-European countries an assessment will be made
of the existing bottlenecks.
Network co-ordination activities to support the consortium management
The network co-ordination activities by the consortium and the taskleaders
are supported by the Joint Secretariat.
Events and Reports
Workshops will be organised about the future of plant genomics and vision documents will be written.
