Agricultural Biotechnology International Conference 2008
'Agricultural Biotechnology for a competitive and sustainable future'
24-27 August 2008, Cork, Ireland
The theme for ABIC 2008 will be "Agricultural Biotechnology for a competitive and sustainable future" and will be held in Cork, Ireland, from 24 to 27 August 2008. Taking a global perspective, industry and scientific leaders along with visionaries will address Agricultural Biotechnology and its impact on world agriculture from food production to maximising bio energy potential. This big picture of agriculture biotechnology, its global opportunities and its impact at both local and regional level, will be of great interest to decision makers and leaders in Governments, industry, academia and public.
ABIC 2008 will have an exciting programme that extends over 4 days commencing on Sunday the 24th with a welcome reception. The agenda is composed of both plenary and parallel sessions and in addition, the conference will host a trade exhibition to provide exhibitors with the opportunity to promote their businesses and products in a professionally presented and marketed exhibition display area. There will also be facilities for scientists to present and discuss their findings through a poster session.

5th Tri-National Arabidopsis Meeting 2008
10 - 13 September 2008, Zürich, Switzerland
The 5th Tri-National Arabidopsis Meeting will discuss advances in Arabidopsis
research carried out primarily in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. A very
rich program has been established that cover numerous and interesting research
areas.
Presentations at this meeting have been divided into the following sections:
Development and Evolution
Molecular physiology and Cell biology
Metabolism
Epigenetics and gene regulation
System Biology and –Omics
Biotic and abiotic stress
These areas cover a large number of Tri-National research projects, making this a conference of general interest for both graduate students and senior researchers. In addition to the invited speakers, several posters will be selected for short oral presentations and a prize for the best poster of each session will be attributed.
Beside the scientific program, a guided tour of Zurich will be organized on Saturday afternoon to allow you to discover this beautiful city.

X congress of European Society for Agronomy
15 - 19 September 2008, Bologna , Italy
Multi-functional Agriculture
Agriculture as a Resource for Energy
and Environmental Preservation
The Bologna X Congress of ESA “Multi-functional
Agriculture - Agriculture as a Resource
for Energy and Environmental Preservation”,
will meet the needs of finding tools to deal
with environmental problems coupled with
the increasing demand for food, and filling the
knowledge gap on the physiological relationships
between functional compound bio-synthesis
and agricultural practices.
Members of the European Society for Agronomy
already have a deep knowledge of these
issues, and the Bologna ESA Congress will
provide an opportunity to develop them further
particularly in regard to innovative agricultural
techniques, new energy sources and
better environmental monitoring.
For more information and registration visit the ESA congress web site.
ECCB is the major European conference in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. The conference covers computational methods for molecular biology that arise in the context of genomics and proteomics technologies in the fields of molecular biology, molecular medicine and pharmaceutics. Biological areas of interest include molecular sequence analysis, phylogenetics and evolution, molecular structure, molecular docking and drug design, metabolic and regulatory networks, gene expression and regulation, gene and protein function, modeling of cellular processes, and analysis of genetic variations.

Plant Genomics European Meetings
7th Plant GEM Albena 2008
24 - 27 September 2008, Albena, Bulgaria
The "Plant Genomics European Meeting" (Plant GEM) is an annual meeting
on the subject of plant genomics in all its assets. The 7th Plant GEM will
take place from September 24th till 27th 2008 in Albena, Bulgaria, Europe.
Latest developments in genome and genomics research are proceeding at an ever increasing speed. With these developments new fields of research are emerging. Integrative disciplines as systems biology or molecular ecology are only two examples. The ongoing discussions in our societies about the effects of global climate change, the need for an improvement of renewable resources, safer and healthier food are guiding the developments towards the so called “Knowledge Based Bio-Economy” where plants and therefore plant research are in the spot light.
Plant GEM is an international annual conference designed to be the platform for researchers from Europe and all over the world to discuss latest developments and to exchange new ideas for future projects and to improve cooperation. The 7th Plant Gem is the first Plant GEM meeting to be hosted by a Central and Eastern European country and will definitely assist the improvement of plant genomics activities in Central and Southern European countries and thus to increase the competitiveness of the bio economy in Europe.

5th Solanaceae Genome Workshop 2008
'Omne tulit punctum, qui miscuit utile dulci'
(Horaz, ars poetica)
12-16 October 2008, Cologne, Germany
The 5th Solanaceae Genome Workshop 2008 - motto: Omne tulit punctum, qui miscuit
utile dulci (Horaz, ars poetica) - will be held in Cologne, Germany from 12
to 16 october 2008. Genome research has perforated traditional borders between
species specific research communities. Knowledge obtained in one plant genome
is beneficial for many other related plant genomes. The purpose of this meeting,
as of the previous ones, is to stimulate the crossing of borders when listening
to, looking at and talking about the research going on in tomato, potato, tobacco,
pepper, petunia, coffee and all 2008 useful and beautiful Solanaceous plants.
Registration is now open, please visit http://sol2008.org for further details.
